Volunteer Opportunities/Fundraisers

You can make a difference! - Volunteer Opportunities within Messmore.

*Each committee/event will need a chair person by October 13th. Any committee/event without a chairperson may be eliminated from the 2011-2012 agenda, so please sign up now if interested! Signup sheets will set out during Open House on September 27th and then kept within the front office until October 13th.  

EVENTS

Daddy/Daughter Dance – Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
This event is designed to celebrate the relationship between a father and daughter through a one of a kind special event. Volunteers will help in the event planning (decorations, favors, invitations, etc.) with some opportunities to volunteer at the dance itself. Previous themes have included a Sock Hop, Denim & Diamonds @ LifeTime Fitness, a Winter Wonderland, & a Walk on the Red Carpet.
An organizational meeting typically held in the fall. Meetings will vary based on committee availability.  This committee can allow for some at-home participation!  Dads welcome too!

Mother/Son Event - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
This event is designed to celebrate the relationship between a mother and son through a one of a kind special event. Volunteers will help in creation of an activity/event for a unique bonding experience for mom and son.
Previous event themes have included: sports @ Joe Dumars, a magician & carnival games, etc.  Volunteers would be asked to help facilitate the event from invitations to set up.

Staff Appreciation Week - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in coordination of different unique ways to show the staff at Messmore how much we appreciate their dedication. Daily “gifts” or gestures of appreciation are prearranged to be given to the staff and completed with a final luncheon to be arranged by volunteers at the end of the appreciation week. Usually held in the spring.

6th Grade D.A.R.E Graduation - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in planning the graduation celebration at the end of the program.  Light refreshments are served at this evening event, usually held in April or May.

6th Grade Graduation - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in coordinating the in school celebration, create a video/picture presentation, class selections (song, colors, motto, t-shirt, etc.), decorations, student favors & gifts.  Parents of non 6th graders are needed to help set up/serve/clean up at this last day of school celebration.

Science & Math Olympiad - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in preparing our students on various science and math subjects for local competition.

Team GREEN - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help guide & oversee the Team Green students as they recycle numerous items throughout the school year.  These could include:  juice pouches, Ziploc baggies, glue sticks, cell phones, etc. Usually done on a weekly basis.

Beautification Committee - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in clean up & planting of flower beds & landscaping as needed.  Possibly resurrecting the ‘Brick Paver’ fundraising program & develop new ideas for the improvement of our school grounds

Trunk or Treat – Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Help coordinate and facilitate this new event at Messmore. Help would be needed with parking, concessions, decorations and of course ideas on how to make this first ever event a fundraising success!


 

FUNDRAISERS

Fun Run/Walkathon - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in set up and take down of the track, provide popsicles and water to children, and pass out lap completion bands to children. Volunteers will coordinate the pledges received and keep track of laps each child makes.

Scholastic Book Fair - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed for Fall and Spring Fair
Volunteers will help in areas such as: Developing theme ideas and creating décor and activities, help students shop & locate product, encourage participation in the Classroom Wish List, arrange cases and set up table displays and decor, and help promote event.  Volunteer shifts could involve some evening hours.  A fall & spring book fair are planned.

Spring Fun Fair - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in coordinating a family event.  Previous events have included a carnival atmosphere w/ games & prizes, large lawn inflatables, multicultural night, ice cream social, refreshments, etc.  New ideas welcome! 

Basket Raffle – 2 Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in contacting businesses along with soliciting new businesses to ask for donations for themed baskets for each classroom within our school (initial contact and followup). Volunteers are required to collect donations and keep track of given donations. These donations are then put into classroom baskets at the end of the school year and raffled off at our Family Fun Fair. Volunteers will be required to wrap baskets and set up and take down baskets to display in the lobby. This is one of the biggest money makers for our school!  

Family Food Night - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in finding, contacting and arranging monthly family food nights where Messmore families & friends can dine in/carry out on a specified date and our school receives a percentage of total night’s sales to use towards our school’s needs. Previous venues have included: Cheeseburger in Paradise, Fuddruckers, Max & Ermas, & Abuellos.

Messmore T-Shirt Sales - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in selling and distribution of t-shirts for Messmore. Volunteers will create signs, information, pricing and marketing of the shirts to help raise funds for the school.

Bingo Night - Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in coordinating, set up, running and take down of Messmore Bingo Night. Volunteers will help with distribution of food & drinks, and facilitation of the Bingo Game. 

Market Day- Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers would be needed to sort and organize food and handle pickup of orders.

Labels for Education- Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in spreading the word for the collection of Labels for Education from various products.  The collection of these labels earn points redeemable for products and supplies for our school. Volunteers will prepare labels for submission.

Box Tops for Education- Chairperson/Volunteers Needed
Volunteers will help in spreading the word for the collection of box tops from any General Mills specially marked products.  The collection of these labels will lead to extra funds for our school. Volunteers will also be required to submit monthly tallies to appropriate contacts and provide class with most labels collected per quarter a popcorn party and most labels collected within the year a pizza party.

VG’s Grocery Receipts – Chairperson/Volunteers
Volunteers will help in spreading the word for the collection of receipts from shoppers at VG’s Grocery Stores.  The collection of these receipts will lead to extra funds for our school. Volunteers will also be required to submit monthly tallies to appropriate contacts.

Box Tops for Education

Box tops can be a huge money maker for our school.  They are located on several products that many of us already use.  Each box top is worth 10 cents for our school.  Please check to see if you have box tops you are missing.  Check products from Betty Crocker, Pillsbury, Land O Lakes, Welch’s, Ziploc, Avery, Hefty, Scott, Kleenex, Huggies, Cottonelle, Nature Valley, Green Giant, General Mills, etc.  For a complete list, go to: http://www.boxtops4education.com.  You may also sign up to receive coupons for products and to keep track of our school’s progress.

E -Box Tops for Education

Do you shop online at Target, Old Navy, Lands End, Shutterfly, Best Buy, Kohl’s or over 100 other retailers?  If you do, you could be earning e-Box Tops for our school.  Over 100 retailers will give eBoxTops to our school when you shop online.  Just make sure you shop through eBox Tops Marketplace website.

VG’s Grocery Receipts

If you shop at VG’s, save your receipts.  VG’s will give us 1% of our purchases excluding some items such as lotto, alcohol, etc.  Community Share Points do not expire.  Look at your old receipts and turn in your points.

2.     Use your "VG's yes Rewards" card

3.     Cut off Community Share Points at the bottom of your receipt

4.     Turn in to Messmore (box in the lobby)

 

Paper Recycling
The school has a bin in the parking lot for recycling paper.  Every bin we fill, the school earns $20.

 

1.     Deposit your papers to be recycled in the bin in the Messmore parking lot

 

Coke Rewards

1.     Go to www.mycokerewards.com/schools (register if you're not already a member).

2.     Enter codes from Coca Cola products to get points

3.     Choose "Donate to Your School"

Gordon Foods Services
If you ever shop at GFS, you can sign up for a free fun funds card.  Purchases will be combined for Messmore to qualify for a rebate every quarter.

If you shop at Kroger, there are three ways to benefit Messmore:

Kroger has a community program in conjunction with the Kroger Rewards Card that will give a percentage back to our school with just the swipe of your FREE Kroger Rewards Card!  You must enroll each year.

E-Labels for Education-Kroger

When you purchase eligible products from Kroger, the points will automatically be deposited into our Labels for Education account which can then be used to purchase merchandise for our school.

Juice Pouch Recycling- Volunteers
The school earns 2 cents for every juice pouch we recycle.  It can be any brand as long as it is a juice pouch.  There are collection bins in the school lobby.   Last year we recycled over 6,000 pouches earning over $120.

If you have a Target Credit or Debit card, you can enroll in their reward program.  Visit
www.target.com/tcoe and enter your school name to view and designate your current school.  Target donates 1% of all Target Visa Credit Card and Target Credit Card purchases made at a Target store or at Target.com and 1% of all Target Debit Card purchases made at a Target Store.
